George, A Rabbit.

Fire’d precarious at 6am

George kicked it in the living room.
Having a seizure.
Seizing the day.

Jerking, as the wood began it’s catching
Leaving, ghosting, in embers popped and flying.

Clipping wild, lifeless nails
Trimming puke, shit, and urine
From the velveteen prince.

We sprayed some perfume,

Layin’ in the cradle of newspaper, hay, tufts of fluff
In the kitten’s old box of tomatoes

Wrapped in two garbage bags
Some duct tape, a carrot

A picture of him, the angel.
Chillin’ in the fridge.

Forgotten, beside the milk.

By everyone but us,
The lucky ones.
